Classic Pre-war Co-Op Renovation
Upper East Side 2005

Complete renovation and redecoration of an existing three-bedroom home overlooking Park Avenue. New kitchen & baths, mahogany study, and Brazilian Cherry floors throughout 3-bedroom residence.

Collaboration with Nitza Shawriyeh Design and Decoration.

An existing traditional seven-room Park Avenue apartment was gutted in two phases, creating a comfortably elegant home for this young family. The existing main living areas were well situated, but outdated. The existing diagonal pickled flooring was removed, and new wide-plank Brazilian cherry hardwood flooring was installed throughout the living, dining, kitchen, foyer, and study. The spaces were stripped of other installations and finishes; only the decorative crown and panel mouldings were restored. Dramatic accent lighting was added to compliment the proportions of the restored mouldings. Classic but simply fresh furnishings, in luxurious fabrics and woods, compliment without crowding the spaces.

The kitchen, nexus for activities of the family’s three children, needed to be enlarged and updated. The existing dove grey laminate cabinets and countertops, as well as a large walk-in pantry, were removed, and electrical risers relocated, enabling the creation of a newly-configured 12’ x 20’ eat-in kitchen featuring a cozy built-in corner banquette. Custom cream-painted wood cabinets, buff honed granite countertops, and beveled mirror backsplash panels, help to visually expand and brighten the space.
